NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. -- A pilot and passenger aboard a single-engine airplane over Central Florida were injured Monday in a possible midair bird strike that significantly damaged the aircraft, authorities said.
Fire officials said the plane landed safely at New Smyrna Beach Municipal Airport around 11 a.m. after its windshield shattered during flight. The pilot and passenger suffered facial injuries and were taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital, officials said. Both were listed in stable condition, officials said. No other details were immediately known.
